Amen to that. Rolling Eyes

I made the same mistake. It's like a collection of set pieces. Where the fark's the plot!? Sure, there are some hot girls. But if I want to gaze upon good looking Italian women, I've got my Asia Argento poster and that didn't cost me twenty-one frikkin' dollars.

Well I am not to big on horror movies, I have always been more of an action & scifi kind of guy, but I must say that Event Horizon and The first Alien movie(the first time you watch it) Are among the scariest moves I've ever seen. Yeah they are both Sci-fi horror movies, sue me.

OH YEAH, Event Horizon!

That was pretty good. When the salvage crew finally cleaned up the video of the Event Horizon's crew's fate. WHOAAA!

A cool concept for a movie...and I like teh "dirty universe" look of it, too.

While you're all talking about scary movies... I think Alien set the standard way back when thirty years ago. Big surprise, my name is Xenomorph...

Gah, you all have no life!

Jk.
(not)

Oh you know what's scary? The Grudge and The Ring. The Ring is the kind of movie that gives you nightmares, and The Grudge is the kind that startles and jumps you at every turn. It also doesn't help if your house is haunted by a ghost with no face.

Regarding the comments about Dead Alive/Braindead: I saw that movie about 3 months ago, and I hated it. I like campy horror movies (I own the aforementioned Killer Klowns, as well as some other golden oldies like Frogs and the original Little Shop of Horrors), and I like grossout comedic ones that revel in their violence, like Jason X, but I just couldn't stand Dead Alive. On IMDb I gave it a 3, and the only reason it was even that high is because of the "I kick ass in the name of the Lord!" sequence. Why couldn't it be legitimately amusing, like Jackson's later effort The Frighteners?

Event Horizon frightened me. So did Ravenous, which doesn't qualify as horror but terrified me enough to be.

I hate cannibals. Confused

I LOVE horror movies. Thusfar I liked Ju-on more then the Grudge, and I think the best scary movie for the time was Exorcist.

I hear a rumor that they are going to do a Freddy Vrs Jason Vrs Ash movie. Personally, I think it would be hilarious if they did.

Ewww, that's not the one I would have started anyone on Argento with. Give Opera a shot before you give up entirely. Minus the pure-d "What the FUCK?" ending, that is. Argento buffs seem to hate it with a red-hot passion, but just thinking about the premise is enough to give me a chill.

Movies that flat-out scared me, hmm... The only one I can think of that scared me enough to make me stop watching and walk away was The Evil Dead. A fair amount of that can probably be chalked up to being female, and anyone who's seen it knows exactly what I mean.

For creepiness rather than outright scariness, Ju-on is a pleasure. And out of the genre, there's always Wait Until Dark, which is amped up a thousand times over by taking Stephen King's suggestion to turn out all the lights for the last 15 minutes or so (You'll know when.).

Not one of my favorites, but what they just did to it has to be an instant classic....

They're running Jason X on SciFi right now, and I just ran across it at the point where the guy sets off the charges in about the 1.5 billionth attempt to finally get rid of Jason. But this IS Sci-Fi, so it's heavily edited, and his big, dramatic tough-guy line is rendered as "Hey! Airhole!"

I usually find editing like this actively offensive. This time I laughed.

I went in looking forward to and wanting to like that movie, because while musically he's not in my usual entertainment 'bubble,' I think Rob Zombie is just amazingly creative and talented. So I was really disappointed to find I was watching a Texas Chainsaw Massacre retread. Yes, I know the difference between retread and homage; I believe this movie crossed that line. I didn't hate it - I thought the look of it was amazing, and the flashes of 'Did you catch that?' humor like the use of Marx Brothers names throughout were a pleasant surprise - but I left it mostly just thinking it could have been much better.

Hey Bernie, you wanna see something REALLY scary? Check out The Descent - the latest movie by the director of Dog Soldiers which someone here also mentioned. This one is way better, though! Not just creepy & scary, but also quite a good movie with good characters & acting.

Classic cool scary movie (or rather, scene) is the part in the Twilight Zone-movie with John Lithgow as a paranoid passenger on a plane, who thinks he's seen a Gremlin on the wings! I also love Evil Dead II, but that is more comedy than horror...

Jason rocks, Freddy is awesome, and Michael is cool as hell, but the Leprechaun kicks all ass.
