I've been wondering about this for a long time. Most of you who read the X-Men probably know about the alien race, the Brood, a reptile/insect-like species who put their eggs in their victims, who then change into a member of the Brood with the characteristics of its victim.
Isn't this just a complete rip off? Since they didn't have the rights to use the Aliens, they just invented one of their own (Marvel is rather good at this).
Doe anyone have a clue?

Wow, not only do they rip off the Aliens premise, they look a lot like Xenos too. I mean, I like Gigeresque things and I wouldn't mind if they had an Alien-y look, but the whole impregnation angle is an even greater ripoff.
*edit* Pah, I'm just looking at the names they gave the mutants in this particular story. Spitball? Temptress? Whiphand? Sheesh, if this is all the heroes have, sign me up with the Alien Menace Army. _________________ The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall.

Dude, weak... it's like the Tyrannids meat Magic: The Gathering kinda drawings...
Btw, there's also this cartoon about the Mask, there are also some weird, purple-blue-ish Aliens who tend to look like Xeno's... I mean, stop ripping us of... _________________

Oops. Thought those were the good guys. Well, screw 'em all, then. Bad guys with stupid names don't deserve to be bad guys. _________________ The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall.

I think it might be more of an "homage" than a blatant ripoff, at least originally. I know a lot of folks like to draw xeno-esque aliens just because they like the design concept. _________________

Yeah, but doing it for money is a little different, I think. They might be a homage, but I don't think it falls under fair use and parody. They basically just used somebody else's design and called it their own. I'm not saying you should never take inspiration from somebody else's design, but this is blatant copying, it's too obvious to ignore. They didn't want to have to come up with their own scary monster and so they used one that was already established. Kind of lazy, I think. _________________ The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall.

You're talking about people who could only come up with things like Whiphand and Spitball. Can you honestly claim, that you'd prefer to see something they did all by themselves? _________________ bitchez n hose |

...I never thought of that. Okay, Marvel, ripoff to your heart's content!
And BTW, your avatar frightens me worse than the last one. _________________ The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall.

I know, it's all very bad.
I have a huge respect for Claremont, but this is just silly. _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu |

Did Chris Claremont do this series? It would make sense, since he worked on Aliens comics before. If it isn't then whoever did it has got no excuse. Or maybe Claremont is just slumming. _________________ The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall.

Yes, Claremont did the Brood stories.
But when did he work on Alien comics?
The first Brood story appeared in 1981, so I guess it was the other way around.
And I know I would sometimes slum if I'd to write a monthly comic. _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu |

If it was 81, then it was before he did Deadliest Of The Species, an Aliens/Predator crossover, which was in '93, I believe. I understand it's way better. I've been trying to get it on ebay, but people keep outbidding me. _________________ The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall.

The only AvP comic I can find is "Thrill of the hunt". Is it any good? _________________

I like it. It's very short, but it's got great art and neato philosophical discussions. Good price, too. _________________ The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall.

I recently came across the Batman vs Alien comic. That one was rather bad, so I didn't buy it. _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu |

In the comic books, the brood did a little bit of ripping of the aliens but not by much. On neat thing was they used living things to host ther homes and space ships. Yea their space ships were living creatures. Their huge city was made out of a rotting gaint creature. Man the city must had stunk. BTW when I was younger I had the comics which the brood appeared in. _________________ "You're lucky attacking ends the spell or I would smack the crap out of all of you."

Yeah, I have those as well, their first, second and third appearance.
There's a bit of incontinuity as far as their ships are concerned. At first they were some sort of space-whales, looking very seventies sci-fi. The next time they appeared, the ships were true-to-life sharks. _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu |

First superhero I ever saw that ripped his clothes..besides the hulk that is... _________________ "You're lucky attacking ends the spell or I would smack the crap out of all of you."
