I voted early and voted Democrat and third party. My main reason was for foreign issues. We're in a time when we have to work with other nations. I do not see anyone working with Romney. Obama has really restored a lot of our global alliances and they really seem to be willing to work with him.
I pretty much agree with what you've said, Crotchfire. Voting GOP is pretty much against all of my interests. Sadly, I live in Texas. My vote is meaningless at the national level.
This is a state which would benefit from the healthcare bill. Texas has some of the largest uninsured rates in the country. The insurance company refund money from the healthcare bill would give millions back to the state. But nooooo. People still think Obamacare has death panels (I argued with a GOP fundraiser volunteer about that).
The educational standards are actually pretty good, but so many students take the minimum requirements. This is also the state that had the school board decide that the textbooks were too liberal and needed more conservatism.
This is also the state that has Rick Perry as governor. He originally signed a law saying the HPV vaccine would be added to the vaccination requirements for anyone attending public schools and later retracted that bill because some people think that the vaccine will make their daughters into sluts and raised a fit. And he's Rick Perry. This is why we can't have nice things.
Anything practical would really help out Texas, but a lot of people here vote Republican because Jesus. If the GOP would go back to its actual conservative roots (small government, not old fashioned values and Jesus) and away from the more extreme elements of its base, I'd consider voting for them.
Makes me sick that being reasonable and educated is being turned into a bad thing and considered "elitist". _________________ "Yeast devil! Back to the oven that baked you!" |

You think Texas is bad? Try living in Utah: home of Zion curtains, nepotism, white people with deformed normal names, nothing open on Sunday, and baptisms performed at cemeteries without family consent. Oh yeah, let's not forget Elder Hatch's song writing:

Still though, I voted early. Somebody has to be in the 10%. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

I've heard about that and can't think of any reason why anyone would think that's a good idea and not offensive in any way.

@ Ipsa -- Well, I think the baptisms help level them up into higher planes of Heaven.
Anyway, I'm a little sad, even though the candidate I voted for, won. The reason? Howard has a great impersonator:

@Bloo well, just agreeing with me isn't necessarily lazy; I'd say it's only lazy if you just agree with me because agreeing with Crotchfire is the cool thing to do (He's so hot right now, Crotchfire). And speaking of fun Mitt Romney songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTCRwi71_ns

Mormons are known to perform baptisms for the dead so the deceased may enter the Kingdom of God. Some have even baptized Jews who died during the Holocaust, most notably Anne Frank.
Supposedly, the deceased is able to accept or reject the baptism.

While that sounds terrible, I'm not surprised at all. Which... is probably worse than me being surprised.

Picking up a new car tomorrow which is going to relegate my current daily driver to storage status. Kinda sad, but I think things will be ok. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

Too much deep snow at the new house. Picked up a snow blower which would allow me to get out of the driveway, but already had some tough days coming home with the kids in the back (not able to get to the garage). Plus the Mrs. wanted something more roomy than her mini countryman. Enjoying the new ride though, although I did a few circles in the green car to keep the battery/engine ok for the week. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |
