Anyone care? I don't understand how this kinda crappy movie elevated to cult status and why they are making a new version. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

I can't really answer that first part, but the second part is logical. I mean, they're remaking everything these days. Apparently everybody ran out of ideas and they're just going with cheap shots. _________________

The Total Recall remake comes out soon, and now I hear about RoboCop. Are they remaking all of Paul Paul Verhoeven's movies? What's next? Basic Instinct? Starship Troopers? Ugh. _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

Yeah, but in my mind, Robocop ranks up there with a Weekend at Bernie's"
Just a movie that, when it came out, was ok. Not worthy of a revival. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

In its day RoboCop was a groundbreaking film. The melting guy was some seriously over-the-top gruesome shit for a Hollywood movie in 1987. I like it to this day. The ED-209 robot was some crazy shit.
That being said, it really seems like this remake is a cash grab. RoboCop was not just a movie, it was a movie, two sequels, an animated kid's cartoon which was really a 30-minute commercial for RoboCop toys.
This will keep happening as we age: every generation's tv shows and movies will be remade, one at a time, over and over, every ten to twenty years.
I wonder if, now that he croaked, someone will make an Andy Griffith movie. Maybe Ron Howard will consult. Jay Baruchel will play Don Knotts. It will fail. _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

I wouldn't say no to a Starship Troopers remake. That movie was great. Absolutely ridiculous, but great craic anyhow. _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

The best thing about a Starship Troopers remake would be that Denise Richards most likely won't be in it. So I say go! _________________
