So that's what Prometheus is? I've known of the title for months and have learned nothing about it till now - never thought to link it to Alien.
...or do any research on it. |

I think Prometheus is gonna suck if it'll be a prequel explaining everything about the Space Jockey, since the story I have in my head is quite awesome (the whole Aliens are a biological weapon thing) and the movie will probably come up with something else.
And what the hell, a new Blade Runner movie? _________________

SO... Prometheus will be opening a week from tomorrow. Anyone excited about this besides me? I can't wait to see it. It may suck, it may be awesome, but it will provide some sci-fi eye candy at the very least.

I'm really anxious to see it since the first time I saw a trailer for it.
If it does suck however, I'll just shut off that part of my brain and remember it as an awesome movie. _________________

HOLY SHITBALLZ. I have a friend who writes movie reviews for a website. He just invited me to go see Prometheus with him next Thursday evening, a day before it's released. I'll be a fan among critics. No idiots in the crowd. No stupid kids kicking seats and adding their own commentaries. Hell yeah! _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

Sorry. I'm still digesting the movie. It was that kind of ride.
So, Prometheus. I'll just say this: erase any and all expectations about what you think the story is. It's not a document of events leading up to ALIEN. It's a story which takes place in ALIEN's reality, and it gives you a fantastic, if vague, look at the circumstances under which the entire saga could have had its origins.
I enjoyed it a great deal. I rarely see a movie and, having had almost a full two days to think about it, still find myself distracted by my interpretations of it. It was well acted, the visuals were stunning (Weta Workshop did the SFX; I often found myself forgetting that the visuals were fabricated in a computer), and the tension and wonder I felt watching it made it a highly stimulating experience.
Not everyone is going to like it. There are a lot of questions the film raises which never are answered. Some folks might even be frustrated by where the story leads. But to me it worked, it worked really well. I think Ridley Scott gives the viewer just enough of a taste of this universe to whet one's appetite, but allows one's imagination to fill in gaps and theorize on the consequences of the events.
I won't go into specific plot details unless there is a request for more information. I was told by a coworker that the Wikipedia page has a spoiler-ridden synopsis of the plot of the movie, but some of the information he shared with me didn't jive with how I saw the movie played out.
Just know that I've been a huge fan of the ALIEN saga since about 1988, and I left the screening very satisfied.
One last note: the movie was shot in 3D, and the critics' screening was shown in 3D, but I don't believe it added any measurable benefit to the viewing. There were no gimmicky, coming-at-you cliched camera tricks, but it did help somewhat with portraying the scale and scope of the film. There are several big scenes for which the 3D enhanced my immersion into the story, but I'm sure the conventional showing would be just as satisfying. _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

I got into a deep discussion about Prometheus this morning with my friend who invited me to see it with him. This movie is going to inspire debate for years, I think.
Prometheus is going to need its own thread when the rest of you get to see it. _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

I'm glad to hear that it doesn't completely fill in all the details. It'd be Episode 1/2/3 all over again.
Anyway, I'm gonna see it next month when I get my paycheck _________________
