Not really. It's just extremely annoying. Someone is wasting so much time and money to perpetuate an industry running joke, for nothing.
Half Life 2 took six years to develop. That was worth it. Starcraft 2 took seven to develop. (They started work on it after WC3: Frozen Throne) That was worth it. Duke 3d has taken... fourteen. Fifteen when it's supposed to be done next year. And the demo is brown, brown, brown. Another generic brown FPS. They wasted all those years.
And it's going to come out, be utter crap, and yet sell by the droves. And gamers will wonder why no one else takes them seriously.

Correct. I'm not against the Duke returning. I'd be all for it, given it was the right sort of comeback. But brown isn't that sort of comeback.
Duke Nukem, as far as I understand, was an affectionate parody of the action genre (both games and movies) at it's time. The senseless violence and mayhem, the one-liners, the overbrimming machismo and chauvinism, it really was taking apart what was awesome about action in the 80s and 90s and putting it all together again to make an ultimate action icon.
Now the basis for the Duke's existence is more or less gone, but that doesn't mean the Duke is irrelevant (which is what some people have been claiming). The Duke could return as a parody of the modern FPS. That shouldn't be too difficult a job, considering how much shooters have evolved since DN3d came out. The clusterfucks and prepubescent punks of Halo and Modern Warfare, weapon-carrying limits, cover systems, the RPG-like concepts being introduced in some shooters such as Borderlands, the constant overflow of various breed of space marines, the parodying could basically write itself. And oh yeah, the dogshit brown/gunmetal grey aesthetic would also make plenty good fodder too.
For instance, consider if you will, a weapon that blinds and then fries enemies with excessive bloom effects.
Duke Nukem could take these concepts and then add his own distinct flair to them. It'd be fucking great. But no, I saw what amounts to another Halo/MW-derived FPS. Complete with weapon carrying limits and brown. The demo showed nothing that was Crazy Awesome. That's a problem for a Duke Nukem game, which was all about the Crazy Awesome.

The game is out. It's as disappointing as we all hoped it wouldn't be.
Behold, Total Biscuit's...
Run of the demo.
First 45 minutes with the game.
Thoughts five hours in.
Yeah. After seeing this I'm passing on DNF. Though frankly I had sorta give up hope when it was delayed that one last time. I think Yahtzee will have a blast with tearing this game a new one though. That'll be something to look forward to.

I watched the videos and I can only say "I'm sorry" to all the naive souls that got tricked into believing that a 15-year-late sequel can be the ballsy shooting game they've been dreaming of.

The demo tried to sell me with a recycled boss fight, a finicky vehicle section and a goddamn turret section. You don't get to poke fun at Half Life when your high points are shit that got old in the ps1 era.
