If it seems like all the movies you’ve ever seen take place somewhere in New York City, that’s because they do. New York is where the aliens must attack, where landmarks are destroyed, where the world ends, and where good-looking people go to find other good-looking people. It’s practically a law.

This is an illustrated 18″x24″ map of the history of films set in New York – more specifically, all the movies I could cram into a tiny 12-square-mile chunk of Manhattan. There’s exactly 91 movies on here. Can you name them all?

This took about 5 months of researching and watching a ton of old movies, and about 3 weeks of drawing. The best movies I watched included The Warriors (on the map), Escape from New York (on), and an old one called A Thousand Clowns (not on). The worst movie I watched was Sex and the City, holy goddamn. So yeah, this is one of the things I’ve been doing since November instead of working on aLp. It hasn’t kept me from doing comics per se, but it sure didn’t help. I got this idea back in December and just felt like I needed to do it. Now that it’s out of the way I think I can get back on the comics horse, but yeah we’ll just see about that, won’t we. In any case the best ways for me to keep you updated are if you follow me on that Twitter, join that aLp Facebook page, or get up on that RSS feed.

Edit, 1/26: Argh, I got hit by a bug or something and my whole body hurts so I can’t really function. So, sorry, but today’s comic will be delayed. Hopefully I’ll have it up by tomorrow. Ow ow ow

Edit, 1/22: My blog post about getting out of jury duty. Guaranteed or your money back.

I did get dismissed from jury duty last week after they interviewed me for 30 seconds, but after I’d sat there doing absolutely nothing for 12 hours over 2 days. I learned a lot of interesting stuff about the process from watching and listening to everything go down, and from all the folks who emailed or twittered their jury duty stories to me, so thanks to you guys. I’m writing a short blog post about it which I’ll put up tomorrow.

There’s not enough you’re so white jokes out there so here’s a few. My buddy Noah contributed the Mos Def line so shout-out to him (I’m so white I use the term “shout-out”). Best I found on Google was something like you’re so white, the government takes away money instead of giving it to you… which is all right, though I think it’s more interesting to contrast it with what banks do, which is the exact opposite (this is from a Louis CK bit) – when you’re rich, banks give you more money, and when you’re poor they charge you low-balance fees. Yeah I just sucked all the humor out of it all, but at least I hope you found my comic funny today. Apparently this here’s a zero-sum comedy site.

Just so you know! Intersexual is the term preferred by those that are born with either ambiguously- or multi-gendered sexual characteristics. So those of you who keep using the word Hermaphrodite – enough of your hate speech! Examples of proper usage:

- An earthworm is an organism that is naturally intersexual.
- Of course I know that Jamie Lee Curtis is an intersexual.
- I’m bringin’ Intersexy back

Why there’s no such thing as Intelligent Design: sure, it’s convenient that man and woman parts go together so nicely, and you need exactly 1 helping of each to procreate… but where’s the Intelligence in making men and women so cavernously far apart when it comes to getting in the mood?

Here’s what “gird your loins” means. How many of you (besides me up ’til I was like 18 years old) thought it meant something nasty you did to yourself?

Do you have the Mid-Term Election Fever? I won’t talk about my opinion on the state of our government or the direction of our country, but I’ll say that I’ll be glad when this election is over so I don’t have to see any more negative ads attacking the other candidate for running negative attack ads. Just once I’d like to see a race like the one in “Welcome to Mooseport” where– okay, no good could possibly come from finishing that sentence.

Happy Election Day…

It might seem I was inspired by this episode of the Ambiguously Gay Duo, but this song actually did come on over the loudspeakers while I was in the weight room last week. And I seriously had to stop the set of bicep curls I was doing. Good thing I was only lifting 12-oz. bottles of water instead of 20-oz., otherwise someone could’ve gotten hurt.

Random note about the Emmys last night: while presenting an award, Calista Flockhart, looking so skinny that Nicole Richie could probably eat her, said something like, “I almost fell ass over tit back there.” Stop me if this is obvious, but what was so shocking about it wasn’t that she said the words “ass” and “tit” on national TV, but it was that SHE HAS NEITHER.

More random. This is one of my favorite stupid internet YouTube viral reality meme videos ever: The Worst Price is Right Contestant Ever (via Gorilla Mask). It’s 5 minutes long, and it’s worth watching ’til the end.
