I guess you’d gave to define old… ’cause I saw that episode of the Twilight Zone as a rerun as a kid. It’s not about age, people… it’s the degree of dorkiness… Twilight Zone freakin’ pwned.

EDIT:

Sweet strip, bernie… *Cheers to that.

I caught that episode on the Sci-Fi channel during their annual New Year’s Twilight Zone marathon. I had no idea they made collectable figurines for T.W. Good episode. Is Preston going to get lucky?

O GOD THAT THING IS SCARY!

Honestly, where did you fnd that thing? It looks like it got hit in the face by a truck or soemthing.

I just thought of something…what if she’s a ghost? you know, the female warrior things from StarCraft? Because they have psy powers too!

Anyways awesome comic!

Man, I had a tape full of TZ I used to watch as a kid! It was actually slightly greenish because my dad has issues replacing faulty electronics equipment.

But I guess the fact that I still watch VHS tapes of shows with commercials from the very early eighties makes me old. Damn.

I used to play the Twilight Zone theme on the viola. Except now I realize it wasn’t the Twilight Zone theme, but the Psycho “NREE! NREE! NREE!” That’s surprisingly easy to play on viola.

OH EHM GEE! I LOVE THE TWILIGHT ZONE! AND THE OUTER LIMITS! AND I REMEMBER THAT EPISODE EVEN THOUGH I’M ONLY FIFTEEN! I think they redid it. It was in colour. And they weren’t so much pig-people as horribly mutated with a tumor on their right cheek. That show rocks. So does your comic. I wonder how many compliments Bernie gets a day?

I’ve only seen one Twilight Zone when I was but a wee laddie and I can hardly remember anything. Come to think of it…that thing was the last thing EVER on television(or VHS, DVD, theaters…whatever) to give me the jibblies and make me lose my sleep …and I got to watch the Chucky and Alien movies as a kid. :|

I guess it was the music. Ooo-oo-OOO-ooo….

Oh and uhh…Super comic. Yeah. Woo.

My question exactly! Did you make it? Did you Photoshop it?

Yes, I’m old, but not old enough to remember Twillight Zone in prime time. I also still think the Outer Limits was scarier, if cheesier. TZ was more cereberal or something.

Bush as Gollum; heh heh heh, she probably foresaw a Kerry win, too; heh heh heh, I’m not so sure her second sight is off at all. Heh. Grr.

Twilight Zone makes you think about the moral of the story, while the Outer Limits makes you think about what could be out there. TZ = Messes with mind, OL = Expands the mind. I like both.

May 2, 2005 at 1:46 pm

When UPN did their version of The Twilight Zone (hosted by Forest Whitaker), they did a re-make of that episode, with Molly Sims as the “ugly” person. I think that was the only episode I saw of the re-make.

It was a predictable plot twist, but the whole cinematogrphy (and all the shadows) made it compelling nevertheless. Also, the episode plays out better in black and white than in color.

The original “Janet” is Donna Douglas (who, as Bernie’s link later reveals, was Elly Mae of the Beverly Hillbillies).

Oh man, TZ reference. Once again, you’ve made my day :)

I think the scariest thing I ever encountered on TV (definitely in syndication, as the show’s original run ended well before I was born) was en episode of Thriller called “Pigeons from Hell.” I was pretty young when i saw it, thanks to my parents’ memories of that show being pretty mild, and their thus giving in to my pleading. I suspect that episode had slipped their minds. It’s been somewhere in the range of 30 years since I saw it, but it’s never slipped mine.

That was the most intentionally scary thing I ever saw on TV. Unintentionally scary would have to be Cop Rock.

By the way, Bernie, the album that song comes from is excellent all around. It’s called Cut, and I think it’s the only thing in my collection I ever paid import price for.

Sad to say, TZ isn’t a show that greatly rewards repeat viewing, because so many episodes depended on “twist” endings. I still tune in for chunks of the marathons that SciFi seems to run on every bank holiday now, but as much as I love the show, it isn’t the same.

Still, there are certain episodes I envy first-time viewers the experience of:

“Time Enough at Last” (sadly, almost completely spoiled by the dozens of spoofs it’s generated over the years)
“The Hitch-Hiker”
“The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” (up until the “do you GET it?” ending Serling so often was guilty of)
“Nightmare as a Child”
“The Eye of the Beholder”
“Dust”
“It’s a Good Life”
“To Serve Man” (also spoiled by much spoofing now)
“Nightmare at 20,000 Feet”

There are other good ones, but those are the ones I love to watch people’s initial reactions to.

I’m not old (or so I try to convince myself while surrounded by friends who are all younger than me) but I do remember seeing that episode, and several other episodes, of Twilight Zone. In black and white, but all re-runs on Scif Fi channel. Good hangover TV. Especially good when you got to watch the same episode three times over so eventually I would understand the twist. (My hangovers were legendary).

Can’t say I remember that particular episode. One of the few TZ episodes I do remember (simply because it gave me nightmares for weeks) was about a man who whenever he looked into a mirror, or any reflected surface for that matter, he would see this creepy guy (who sorta looked like the Emperor from Star Wars) coming up behind him …. but when he would turn around there would be no one there! *deep intake of breath* (BTW anyone know what that ep was called?)

I was sitting there, thinking about what to think about, when I thought of Dr Seuss’s “The things you can think when you think about Seuss.” So, I started thinking about that, and I thunk and I thunk. I think thunk’s just a thought-up word that I thought about thinking and then typed. Thinking is good for ma brain because ma brain thinks and thinks of things to make you think like the word think because when you think about the word think long enough it loses all meaning. Meaning is important when you think because without meaning there is no thinking so there are no thoughts able to be thunk when you’re thinking if they have no meaning.

This is just what I thought.

I adored Burgess Meredith anyway, from the moment he weirded his way onscreen in one of my favorite trashy horror movies, Burnt Offerings.

Most TZ episodes didn’t outright scare me, but “The Hitch-Hiker” definitely did. It was actually scarier to me without a supernatural explanation – the ending was a relief!

Man the scariest episode was about a grandma and granddaughter, the entire episode is spinning around the idea that the Earth is moving closer to sun, and you see Thames all dried up and shit, but in the end, the Earth is moving away and the whole thing is actually freezing.
