SalJuly 31, 2006 at 10:26 am
no way! Abe is a grammar nazi!
that changes everything…
Boisterous_OysterJuly 31, 2006 at 10:42 am
Yep, The Odd Couple is where I saw the ASS/U/ME thing for the first time too. Although I remember thinking it WAS pretty clever, but that was probably due to the combination of me being a kid and the word "ass" not showing up on prime time TV very often in those days.

lol, like going through a timewarp…

Ah, yes the ever popular Brady Bunch Episode where Mrs. Brady is getting sued by a charlitan for giving him whiplash….I always thought Mr. Brady was a genius after that!

Mon, Wed, & Fri, AWESOMO!
I’m gonna try the ‘U’ and ‘I’ line on this girl at work today… Maybe she’ll overlook the cheesiness and think it’s cute… "crosses fingers"
spinnJuly 31, 2006 at 1:24 pm
I first saw ASS/U/ME on a Benny Hill. Completely forget what it was about, but I remember him writing it on a board, and the audience similarly busting up.
Maybe it was a new joke around then.

I first encountered it in reading ‘Silence Of The Lambs’. At least Thomas Harris seemed pretty conscious that simply by using it the guy was self-conferring asshood…
luAugust 1, 2006 at 8:47 am
You know what they say about ‘assumptions’? They make an ass out of ‘u’ and ‘umptions’.
… it’s a silent hidden ‘u’
GoBobbyGoAugust 1, 2006 at 10:32 am
When I saw "Under Siege 2 – Dark Territory" (look – it was air conditioning-related. Honest) I heard the line "Assumption is the mother of all f*ck-ups". Then I heard it again in "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert".
Both times I immediately thought back to Felix and the chalkboard.

I think one of these times, abe should actually get a girl. only to fall deeply in love with her, then she breaks his heart, so he carves it out, and puts it in a chest..keeping the key with him at all time.
5tepheAugust 1, 2006 at 9:05 pm
Bernie, you ain’t old- Mike Brady is a LEGAL GENIUS.
Spock 1701August 2, 2006 at 3:40 pm
I first heard the ass/u/me from a guy at scarborough fair, although i dont think he meant to say it, he was trying to make a joke about a mathematician which was not funny
Army of DarknessAugust 2, 2006 at 5:28 pm
Wow, three times in a week, Bernie’s the Peter Stringfellow of web comics. At least with speed dating Abe’s got a chance of finding love with someone as desperate as himself….
