I was trying to work out why there was a blind squirrel with a spliff erupting from the ground. I think the book / expression must be an American phenomenon. Over here in Europe I've never heard the expression. I think actually I'd have preferred it if you hadn't explained it. It would be just one of those nice bits of inexplicable weirdness in the world.
