About this super time-travelin’ storyline
Hey, I wanted to say this about the current storyline if you haven’t heard me say it before… I KNOW IT’S TAKING FOREVER AND I’M SORRY YOU GUYS. I’m glad that most of you are enjoying it but I also know that there’s at least some of you who aren’t – maybe cuz it’s taking so long or maybe you just plain don’t like it.
I just wanted to try something new, y’know, and I’m pretty much happy with it, but still I do hate that it’s taking forever. The first problem, of course, is that I only have enough energy to do (almost) one update a week. On top of that, I’m trying not to let the jokes slip, and it’s hard to be funny and keep the story hummin’ along at the same time, with that one update a week. So, yeah, it does get to me when weeks go by and the story hasn’t budged much. But I’m trying not to let go of why you came here in the first place, which is for the yuks. I know you like the yuks.
So I’m gonna keep doin’ my best to make you all laugh and if it takes me another forever to finish telling the story I set out to tell, then sorry. I’m not gonna half-ass it cuz that’d be unfair to me and anyone invested in it. I just hope you’re diggin’ it… if you are, let me know so I don’t feel like I’m just a raving lunatic. And if you ain’t, well thanks for stickin’ with me for so long. I’ll just be here pluggin away the best I can.
THX GUYS I LUV U

Hey, if it makes the story more interesting it’s fine with me. Besides, it’s your strip, you can do what you want! Have fun!

Man I could throw a whole book o’ paragraphs here about dealing with the direction of one’s own creation but I won’t load you down. Can I just suggest that you’re worrying about it too much. If it’s giving you a positive creative direction you should just roll with it. Seems like you’re only getting upset because you’re getting upset, but aside from that you think you’re doing a good thing.
Some people will like it more and some people will like it less, but that’s always true. If you like what you’re creating then that should be good enough.

Ok Bernieh, it’s storytime. Once upon a time there were a couple of NYC artists who tried something different, and became very popular and won a lot of fans. Then they went off and tried a few things which didn’t work and lost quite a few of those fans, but the true ones stuck with them. Then they went back to doing what they always did in order to win back all those fickle fans. They carefully scripted their public statements so as to alienate as few fans as possible, and apologetically distanced themselves from their “mistakes”, so they sounded more like politicians than artists. On the rare occasion they created any new art, it was a formulaic rehash, without any soul or integrity. Sure they remained popular, but their faithful fans felt betrayed and came to hate them.
It shouldn’t be too hard to figure out who I’m talking about (although I’d be curious of the guesses of anyone reading this; there may be many fitting the description). My point is, trust your artistic instincts and don’t compromise your integrity. Any fans you lose weren’t worth having.
p.s. I won’t apologise for the Australian-English spelling! ;-)

Keep it going, don’t short change us by cutting corners with the story, do it at your own pace.
In short loving it.

Well, you know, long storyline or short one-strip gag, it’s still Preston & Abe, THE Preston & Abe i started loving with strip #1, and as long as they remain true to themselves, i will keep loving them.
And seriously, even if it DOES take forever, even if i howl to the moon when you skip an update, i mean, man, common’ ! a scene like the cash cab ? Well worth waiting.
- What webcomic…
- ALP !
- Incorrect, the answer was XKCD
- It’s always one of these two, it was 50/50

ps
Mother Goose nursery rhyme:
To market, to market, to buy a fat pig,
Home again, home again, jiggety-jig.
To market, to market, to buy a fat hog,
Home again, home again, jiggety-jog.
To market, to market, to buy a plum bun,
Home again, home again, market is done.

Thanks for the support everyones! I know I’m probably worrying too much but you know, that probably makes me normal.

Loving the whole storyline, I don’t think there is anything wrong with wanting to create something you are happy with regardless of the amount of time it takes. After Bill Watterson, you come to mind as an comic strip creator who cares about the craft and the telling your story. Sticking with the comic strip theme: don’t ever feel like you are Gary Trudeau, I wouldn’t wish that fate on Tom Wilson.

I loves the yuks and the story’s pretty tangential. Still, this one’s interesting and worth waiting around for. Keep up the good work!

May I suggest anyone who nags about this comic make a better Alien/Predator action figure comic strip?
July 4th, 2010 at 5:44 am

The storyline’s great man! If people didn’t like it they wouldn’t read it so jus be happy so many of us keep coming back and keep up the good work!
July 8th, 2010 at 7:15 pm
@Craig K. Bartley: I had KISS in mind (specifically Gene and Paul), but I like your Metallica suggestion. It’s a cautionary tale…
July 10th, 2010 at 11:51 am
