At college we used to have Shamrock Shake contests on St Pats Day. We would each have one, then whoever had the greenest doody won.

no shamrock shake… thats crazy! whats wrong with having a shake for every other holiday/parade anyway? i mean, most places will capitalise on anything. any reason to make people buy crap.

I can affirm that most, if not all, Syracuse-area McDonalds have shamrock shakes on St. PAtrick’s Day. All bets are off after the actual day, however.

(If I had a job, I would send you a shamrock shake in a cooler. I would also buy a T-shirt.)

Here’s a recipe for a ‘Copycat McDonald’s Shamrock Shake’ if you don’t have any luck finding one.

SERVES 2

2 cups vanilla ice cream or soy ice cream
1 1/4 cups 2% low-fat milk (or soymilk)
1/4 teaspoon mint extract
8 drops green food coloring

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until smooth.
Stop blender to stir with a spoon if necessary to help blend ice cream.
Pour into 12-ounce cups and serve each with a straw.
