TL;dr: Leader of the Christian party was nailing a 12 yr old girl since she was 8, ran his political party on "Moral" and "harsh punishments for sex offenders"

This is an early version of the story, later on when he got hammered in court he changed his story to say she was consenting (at 12!) and could not seem to understand why he had to go to jail "Because she wanted him to"

Babysitters and care workers for sure, but a social figure like a priest, in a posistion of great power (we are but sheep, please brain wash us oh mighty one :roll: ) and respect, to have been a nonse all along?… nasty.

As for other cultures and their religions, they can keep ‘em, but stoning old ladies to death just because they needed some cobwebs clearing out is a bit harsh- interesting that if the extremists ever got their way and introduced sharriah (sp) law in the UK and abroad, we might actually see things like that happen, and the police would have to condone it; how screwed up is that?… :?

It was a very socio-political move; I believe wikipedia explains most of it, though fragmented and bias. That is the nice thing about Coptic ( Christian Eastern Orthodox); priests, even popes, can be married. Though, as a sign of respect and dedication, some do take a vow of celibacy to focus on spiritual enlightenment… not that I believe in any of that. I have a Coptic Priest as a relative in Egypt; he is married with seven children.

Edit: Though I believe the coptic nuns must remain pure unless they are widows (widows I know for sure are an exception). If they are found out to have had relations, they are likely to get stoned to death anyhow. If not by their neighbors, definitely by the Islamic local municipalities.

Just another example of correlation =/= causation. I find the idea that pedophiles seek out positions of trust in which they will have contact with children to be more likely than the notion that the vow of celibacy turns priests into pederasts.
