I have never heard of such a word or correlative as thats – whose is correct usage, but most North Americans don’t know how to use it.

A song is not a “who.” The correct way would be “…managed to write a song in which the chorus starts with DAMN!.” Naturally, few people write or speak that way except when formality is required, so informally, there’s a lot of leeway on things like this.

Actually, it is correct. In both examples the verb is a form of the infinitive “to be”, and thus is a linking verb. The I and We are both predicate nominitives which rename the subject. The predicate nominitive uses the nominitive case, which happens to be I and We in these examples.

Well, all right, making that change totally f#$s up the rhyme scene (such as it is), but still, “for you and me” bugs me every time I hear it.

Actually, “for you and me” is perfectly fine. As an absurd amount of English teachers would say, when finding out whether a particular side of a conjunction is correct, you should say the sentence without the other side. The stars fall for me. compared to the stars fall for I? THAT sounds like crap.
